About
Chiropractic
More than 100 years old, Chiropractic
works on the principle that misalignment of the spine puts
pressure on the nerve
tissues of the spinal cord, which in turn, interferes with
the ability of the nerves to transmit proper impulses to
other tissues and organs in the body. Chiropractic holds
that the efficient functioning of the nervous system has
a direct impact on a person's overall health. Misalignment
of the spine may be caused by physical trauma, disease, problems
during the birth process, mental stress, poor nutrition or
improper posture. Chiropractors do not diagnose or treat disease;
rather, they enable people to achieve optimal wellness by
adjusting the
spine and keeping the nervous system in balance so that the
messages, or impulses, are sent clearly and distinctly to every
part of the body.
Activator Method
The Activator allows chiropractors to give
consistent, low force, high speed adjustments. The Activator
creates more bone movement with less force as well
as stimuating mechanoreceptors, so vital for establishing normal muscle tonus.
around the vertebrae. In additon,, it is based on a highly specifcic rationale
for adjusting the spine, that indicates when a spinal correction has been accepted
by the body.
Applied Kinesiology
Applied Kinesiology [AK]
is a system for evaluating body functions by means of muscle
testing that is unique to
the healing arts. AK uses these tests to
determine
strengths and weaknesses in many body systems.
Sacro-Occipital Technique
(SOT)
Discovered and developed by Major Bertrand
DeJarnette, SOT is a synthesis of chiropractic and osteopathic
principles
as well as reflects DeJarnette's engineering background.
It is a whole body approach based on a Category system for
diagnosing and treating subluxations. Each category has it's
own system of body reactions with its own symptomatology
and indicators for correction. At the same time, SOT recognizes
that cranial dysfunction can have a profound effect on the
function of the spine and health of the entire body. SOT
also includes visceral manipulation and extremity techniques.
SacroOccipitalTechnique Organization(SOTO)-USA furthers the
founder's work as well as teaches seminars to the profession.
